Who Knew? Mailbox with a View
Hey everyone, NYC to Nata is back with a glimpse into the (sometimes surprising) realities of living in coastal Portugal! We used to grab the mail from our mailbox with barely a second thought. Those days are officially over, and it's been quite the adjustment! Back in our old life, getting the mail was a non-event. We'd simply open the front door, maybe grumble about bills, and that was that.
Here in Portugal, however, it's turned into a mini-adventure – a daily dose of fresh air and stunning scenery, all thanks to the unique charm of our coastal town.
According to my trusty Apple Watch (it's become my new best friend!), the trek to the mailbox involves a cool 600 steps (round trip, of course).
This whole experience has been a fun reminder that sometimes, the simplest tasks can become unexpected adventures here in Portugal. It's a beautiful way to start the day and soak up the stunning scenery that surrounds us. Plus, we’ve even met some friendly neighbors along the way. So, the next time you see us posting a video with a breathtaking backdrop, know that it might just be a glimpse of our "mail run." Stay tuned!
Neighborhood Swap
We swapped the NYC outskirts hustle for sunny Portugal but needed to find a neighborhood to call "home."
Portugal offers such diverse regions, landscapes and neighborhoods, each bursting with its own personality. We knew we needed a place that fit our budget, lifestyle, and, importantly, our two canine companions.
First, let's talk about budgets. Coming from NYC, where a house costs an arm and a leg, Portugal's housing market was much more competetive than we thought! We found incredible options – but to match up with what was on our wish list, it seemed like renovations, unfinished new builds or finding a plot and building our own home would be the best options. Those options meant we could prioritize features that mattered most to us.
We found a gorgeous plot with views of old windmills, the ocean and an untouched and unobstructable landscape. We can't wait to share more about our specific area, the hidden gems we found, and some tips for navigating the Portuguese housing market and the process of building a dream home.
See you on the next adventure!
